Today’s episode is on understanding imposter syndrome. What it is, how it could hold you back in your career, and ways to overcome it.

Imposter Syndrome Definition:¬†Impostor syndrome is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their skills, talents, or accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a “fraud”. Despite external evidence of their competence, those experiencing this phenomenon remain convinced that they are frauds and do not deserve all they have achieved. Individuals with imposter syndrome incorrectly attribute their success to luck, or interpret it as a result of deceiving others into thinking they are more intelligent than they perceive themselves to be.


  • Reflect on your life and think if you are feeling like an imposter in something¬†
    • Think of facts that show you are not an imposter¬†
      • Ex: Graduated from university, hired for this position, performance feedback, people not calling you out
    • Think of other times you may have felt like an imposter but turns out you weren’t. Reflect on that experience and how those feelings you were having at the time are similar to what you are experiencing now.
  • Talk to a trusted friend, family, or therapist about your experience so it is not all just in your head. Sometimes we are the toughest on ourselves.
